Some people clench or grind their teeth during the day or night. This can lead to sore teeth, jaws, headaches and TMJ joint pain.
Bite Splints or Night Guards worn at night often give some relief, and also help prevent tooth wear and breakages. They are custom made and comfortable to wear.
If this sounds like an issue that you may have, contact us to arrange a consultation.
Crowns are a full cover restoration used to replace or strengthen our natural tooth structure.
Crowns are most often indicated for teeth that are heavily restored, broken, very worn or non-vital.
Crowns are custom made and usually undetectable from a natural tooth!
Dental bridges are one option for replacing a missing tooth. A popular option with patients who do not want to wear a removeable denture and an implant may not be affordable.
Bridges are custom made for each individual case, aesthetically pleasing and generally more comfortable than a denture.
The process is very similar to a crown with the “missing tooth” attached to and supported by the adjacent teeth.
Dental implants are made from titanium, one of the most bio-compatible materials available.
Implants are designed to replace a missing tooth. The implant is place in the jawbone where the missing tooth once was. The top or visible part is very similar to a routine crown.
If you would like an assessment to see if an implant is an appropriate option for you, please contact us for a consult.
Full and partial dentures are ways to replace missing teeth.
A consultation is required to assess your personal needs and advise the best option to restore both functionality and appearance. There are a variety of denture types available, we will help you understand your options and make an informed decision.
To book in for a denture consult please contact us.
The onset of pain and swelling can happen suddenly. We routinely keep “emergency” appointments each day for unexpected and urgent situations.
If you require an urgent dental appointment, contact our reception at 8:30am as emergency spots are limited and released on a first come first served basis.
White, or “tooth coloured” fillings are the preferred method of restoration for both clinician and patient in most situations.
The colour is matched as closely as possible to your natural tooth for optimum aesthetics.
While this is the material of choice there are times that it is not appropriate, we will present options and recommendations where necessary.
This is our term for teeth scaling and polish, or “teeth cleaning”. Oral hygiene is about caring for your gums, tongue and other oral tissues as well as your teeth.
Healthy gums are the foundation for healthy teeth and great smiles. Every mouth is different, so your dentist will advise on the best hygiene regimen for you to obtain and maintain optimum oral health.
Hygiene treatment is usually required annually for most adults, but 3, 4 or 6 monthly visits are indicated for some people. Hygiene treatment involves removing the calculous that builds up over time and cannot be removed by toothbrushing.
Invisalign clear aligners are removeable orthodontic appliances.
This makes them a great choice for people with active, busy lifestyles - no fixed metal brackets!
Removeable for sport, eating and important meetings or functions and only require appointments every 6-8 weeks.
If you would like an assessment to see if Invisalign is an option for you, please contact us for a consultation.
This dental procedure is indicated when the innermost part of the tooth, “the pulp” becomes decayed or infected. Sometimes there can be an abscess present also.
To save the tooth the infected pulp and nerve tissue need to be removed and the inside of the root canals cleaned and sterilised before a root filling is placed in each canal. In dental terms we call this “Endodontics”.
After a root canal filling has been successfully completed, often a crown is recommended as this will help prevent the tooth from cracking.
To maintain good oral hygiene, you need to brush and floss daily and visit your friendly dentist regularly.
The dentist not only examines your teeth for signs of cavities or damage, they also look for other abnormalities such as gum disease and signs of oral cancers.
Annual visits are generally recommended although more, or less often may be advised for some people. Early intervention can help avoid large costly problems.
Sometimes treatments are recommended that are provided by specialist clinicians like endodontists, periodontists, prosthodontists and oral surgeons.
We are able to connect you with appropriate specialists by referral if needed.
Mouthguards are recommended for all contact/impact sports and activities.
Professional mouthguards help prevent injury to the teeth as well as lips, cheeks and tongue.
It can also cushion a blow to the mouth which may help prevent damage to the jaw, neck and brain.
It only takes a quick appointment to protect your smile.
Teeth can discolour over time due to pigmentation from what we eat and drink, lifestyle factors, and also sometimes natural aging process. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth contact us for a consultation to see if tooth whitening is appropriate for you.
Most of us are keen to avoid having a tooth removed if possible but the reality is that sometimes it is unavoidable.
Our dentists have many years of combined experience, generally tooth removal is a quick and pain-free experience using local anaesthetic.
Birth to Year 8
Generally for children below year 9 (usually about 12 years old) free treatment is provided at the Community Oral Health Service (COHS) located at 56 Nelson St, Blenheim 035209922. There is also a mobile clinic which services some of the more rural areas.
Some parents of children in this age bracket may prefer their children to be seen by a private dentist which we are happy to do, but unfortunately treatment will not be covered under our contract and there will be private charges.
Any treatment that the Dental Therapists at COHS are unable to provide is referred out and we also have a contract enabling us to take these referrals.
Year 9 – 18 years old
We hold a contract with the Ministry of Health to provide free dental treatment to students choosing to enrol with us. Enrolment or transfer of enrolment is simple, just contact us!
Children and Dental Accidents
Dental Therapists are not able to provide ACC treatment so if your child of any age has an accident which involves trauma to the mouth and/or teeth give us a call, registration is easy and usually ACC treatment for children is fully funded.
We are registered treatment providers with Work and Income NZ.
If you need urgent treatment and believe you are entitled to financial assistance from WINZ, contact us for a consult and we will complete a quote form for you to submit to WINZ for consideration.
Once payment for the required dental work is approved, we can book time to complete treatment.
Note:
WINZ client number is needed for the quote form.
If you do not know your client number, you can find it on the front of your community services card.
